Malabon is metro’s top achiever in anti-illegal drugs drive

MALABON has been adjudged Metro Manila’s top anti-illegal drugs campaigner following the “drug-clearing” of six more barangays by the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Drugs (ICAD) of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

PDEA Regional Director Joel Plaza handed the citation to City of Malabon Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CMADAC) Action Officer John Vrix Sarmiento representing Mayor Antolin Oreta III at their office, along with the representatives of barangay awardees.

This third wave of proclamation counts to 15 title holder barangays out of Malabon’s total 21 barangays, thereby batting a 71 percent drug cleared rating, putting the city the top anti-illegal drug achiever in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Barangays Acacia, Bayan-bayanan, Catmon, Maysilo, Santulan and Tugatog were the newly affirmed villages free from illegal drugs proliferation.

Barangays Concepcion, Flores, Panghulo, Baritan, Dampalit, Ibaba, Niugan, San Agustin and Muzon were accorded the same citation recently.

PDEA convenes the ICAD to validate non-availability of drug supply, absence of drug transit activities, as well as clandestine drug laboratories and chemical warehouses, marijuana cultivation sites, drug dens and drug pushers in respective areas to be certified as drug-cleared.

Owing to Oreta’s various anti-illegal drug activities under its “Malabon Ayaw sa Droga” campaign since 2015, this achievement is a testimonial that the efforts are reaping fruits for Malabonians.

Mayor Oreta made effective use of grassroots multi-sectoral approach in confronting the anti-narcotics challenges in Malabon throughout his stint as local chief executive, engaging the Philippine National Police, barangay electorates, community leaders, the academe, and various religious entities among others in unison against the drug menace.

Adhering to the national anti-drug call, Oreta vows to keep an upper hand in pursuing the campaign along its neighboring cities until its total success.
