Man returns home after Ulysses, killed by wall

A MAN died after a collapsed concrete wall fell on him shortly after returning home following the onslaught of “Ulysses” in Marikina on Friday.

As of press time the identity of the fatality is still being verified by authorities and is said to be a resident of Provident Village.

Provident Village was submerged in floods during the typhoon, leaving many residents stranded either on the second floor of their houses or on the roofs.

Based on initial investigation, the victim went to the back of his house at about 2 a.m. on Friday when the concrete wall accidentally fell on him.

Police said a huge portion of wall pinned down the victim in the murky flood waters.

A witness failed to rescue the victim due to the high level of floodwaters and the heavy current.

The witness then sought assistance from barangay officials.

A few minutes later, a team from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) arrived and retrieved the body.

Marikina City was one of the areas hardest hit by Typhoon Ulysses.
