Mandaluyong teachers, studes to get free gadgets

PUBLIC school teachers and students in Mandaluyong City will receive free laptops and tablets from the local government unit (LGU) in support of the distance learning this school year (SY) 2020-2021.

This was announced by Mandaluyong City Mayor Carmelita Abalos during the virtual Monday morning program, attended by local officials and city government employees via video conferencing app Zoom.

Abalos said the city is now 100 percent ready for the implementation of the new mode of learning as the country shifts to online classes amid COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Education (DepEd) has released adjustment of school calendar for this school year as school opening of classes has been moved to October 5 due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

But private schools or non-DepEd schools that have already started their classes, last August 24 or on other dates ahead of October 5, are allowed to proceed provided they are strictly using only distance learning modalities and that there are no face-to-face classes.

As for public school students, Abalos said the city government will provide them with free tablets containing the learning modules they need for their classes.

The mayor emphasized that only public school students from Grades 4 to 12 are entitled to receive the learning gadgets.

The city assured they are ready for the upcoming school opening. As nothing can stop their desire to provide the best education for the school children.
