Manila Bags Best Tourism-Oriented LGU in ATOP-DOT Pearl Awards Night

THE City of Manila ruled in the recently-concluded 17th Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines-Department of Tourism (ATOP-DOT) Pearl Awards, bagging a total of six awards, including the highest awards as the Best Tourism-Oriented LGU and in the Best Tourism Event category.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna personally attended the awarding ceremony held in Tagaytay City over the weekend, in support of Department of Tourism, Culture and the Arts in Manila (DTCAM) chief Charlie ‘Mama Cha’ Dungo and to receive the awards from the prestigious ATOP-DOT Pearl, the award- giving body in tourism nationwide, based on tourism best practices of various cities and municipalities.

Apart from the top award as the top Tourism Oriented LGU, the other awards received by the Manila’s tourism department under Dungo were:

Tourism Program for Culture and the Arts (1st runner-up) for its conservation efforts for its tangible and intangible cultural assets; Tourism Week/Month Celebration, 1st runner up ; Tourism Promotion Publication (city level), 2nd runner-up; Tourism Promotion Videos, 2nd runner-up and grand champion for Best Tourism Event/Festival (based on religious practice to honor community saints).

The awards were bestowed at the 17th ATOP Pearl Awards held at the Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay City.

A highly-elated Mayor Lacuna hugged a very emotional Dungo tightly after Manila was hailed as the “Best Tourism-Oriented LGU”, besting other cities and municipalities nationwide. It is the highest award given by the organization to a local government unit.

The City’s Best Tourism Religious Practice, Traslacion of the Black Nazarene, won the Grand Champion title.

Lacuna congratulated Dungo and the entire DTCAM family for a job well done in promoting Manila to the fullest and in ways that are in keeping with the times.

For his part, Dungo said the accolades will serve as an inspiration for him to strive even harder to bring Manila to greater heights in terms of tourism.

He also shared the awards with his co-workers, citing their support and dedication in all of the DTCAM’s undertakings.
