THE city of Manila joins the nation in mourning the passing of veteran actress Gloria Romero.
“As Mayor of Manila, the cradle of Philippine movies and home of the country’s first movie theaters, I join Manileños and the Filipino nation in mourning the passing of Gloria Romero,” Lacuna said in a statement.
The mayor said that she is one with Filipinos who have revered Romero for generations because of her sterling acting and graceful beauty.
In connection with this, Lacuna also declared a three-day citywide period of mourning from Sunday, January 26, to Tuesday, January 28.
“Please note that this is not a public holiday, and work and classes will proceed as usual. I ask the flag ceremonies on Monday, January 27, to include prayers for Gloria Romero, her family, colleagues and fans,” Lacuna added.
Manila, the mayor said, is grateful to the actress Romero for having served as a guiding star of Filipino performing arts, culture and family values.
