MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna has directed Manila Urban Settlements Office chief Atty. Danny de Guzman to continue addressing the city’s backlog when it comes to housing, as she also announced that more landless residents will be receiving lots in the days to come.
“Sa kabila ng dagok na kinahaharap ng ating lungsod pagdating sa budget, ang MUSO po ay patuloy na nagtatrabaho nang todo upang matugunan ang ating housing backlog.,” Lacuna said, as she asked for the residents’ understanding and continued support for the fulfillment of her administration’s programs.
The mayor said this as she, represented by Vice Mayor Yul Servo, awarded 171 lots under the city government’s Land for the Landless Program (LLP).
Lacuna was then attending the 2025 Open Government Partnership Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting (OGP-APRM) led by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. In the LLP awarding, the beneficiaries are broken down as follows”: third district – 20 awardees;second district – 13 awardees; fifth district – 132 awardees and sixth district – six awardees.
Under the LLP, residents who live in homes that sit on lands that are not theirs get the chance to finally own the said lots.
Meanwhile, Lacuna said it is an honor to have joined President Marcos, Jr. and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman at the OGP-APRM, an event that brought together government reformers, civil society leaders and policy-makers from across Asia and the Pacific, along with global and regional partners, to discuss the progress of key open government initiatives and explore ways to address the region’s most critical issues.
Good Local Governance Award noong nakaraang taon,” she said.
The mayor expressed confidence in the capability of Manila to become a model city when it comes to transparency, citizen participation and digital innovation.
