This was how Mayor Honey Lacuna welcomed Paris two-time gold medalist and Manila resident Carlos Yulo as he paid a visit to and received a hero’s welcome at the Manila City Hall, where he was feted by city officials and employes led by Mayor Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo.

Yulo was presented with a resolution inked by the Manila City Council under Presiding Officer Yul Servo, which designates every August 4 as ‘Carlos Yulo Day’, marking the date when he won his first gold medal. He was joined by Servo and the members of the Manila City Council.

Following this, Lacuna handed over to Yulo a symbolic check in the amount of P2 million as cash incentive from the local government of Manila.

Last week, Lacuna also gave pole vaulter EJ Obiena a cash incentive of P500,000. The said cash incentive was given earlier since Obiena had to leave Thursday last week to prepare for another competition.

Lacuna said in her brief message during the awarding ceremony held at the Bulwagang Villegas in City Hall.

Yulo is a resident of Leveriza, Malate Manila while Obiena is from Tondo and a student at the University of Santo Tomas (UST).
