THE city government of Manila will be coordinating with the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) to ensure a steady power supply for the storage facility where the COVID-19 vaccines will be stored.
Mayor Isko Moreno had directed City Engineer Armand Andres to make the coordination himself, citing the importance of a steady electrical supply in order to sustain the needed temperature to maintain the vaccines’ efficacy.
Moreno assured that the COVID-19 vaccine storage facility located at the Sta. Ana Hospital is capable of accommodating the vaccines that will be available for the city, since it is also capable of complying with whatever temperature is required.
Andres said the mayor is requesting for a ‘no power interruption’ operation of the said storage facility specially once the COVID vaccines arrive.
He has already made the request to Meralco and bared that each of the 12 freezer units at the facility have a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) system that would maintain power in the event of a power outage.
The facility also has a generator set that would also ensure continuous power.
The city engineer added that the mayor ordered the installation of computers that will be used for monitoring of the supply center.
He added that a data logger will also be utilized to maintain the temperature inside the storage units which will be thoroughly and continuously monitored by computers that will sound off an alarm for any change in the set temperature.
“Be it Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Sputnik or Johnson & Johnson, any vaccine that can be accessed by the city government of Manila can be stored properly in our facility,” Moreno assured.
The said storage facility, located at the seventh floor of the Sta. Ana Hospital under the directorship of Dr. Grace Padilla, occupies 100 square meters and has an anti-bacterial vinyl flooring.
The number of those who have pre-registered for the free vaccination via https://manilacovid19vaccine.com , according to electronic data processing chief Fortune Palileo, is almost 89,000 already.
Just last week, Moreno paid a total of P38.4 million for the purchase of 800,000 doses of Astra Zeneca vaccines, enough to cover 400,000 individuals at two doses each.
