THE Manila city government received millions worth of ‘top of the line’ hospital equipment that would benefit would-be mothers and unborn children who cannot afford the high costs of pre-natal services.

The equipment, composed of modern ultrasound and fetal monitor machines, were received by Mayor Isko Moreno, Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, Secretary to the Mayor Bernie Ang and Sta. Ana Hospital dirctor Dr. Grace Padilla from the Rotary Foundation led by the Rotary Club of Makati San Lorenzo and the Rotary Club Pohang Eunhasu in a simple turnover ceremony in City Hall.

Ang explained that the said equipment worth P3 million are useful in ensuring the safe and healthy deliveries of babies, whose activity in their mother’s wombs may be monitored from its early stages in a more high-tech fashion, using the said expensive machines.

Moreno thanked the donors for having chosen Manila as recipient of their generosity and assured that the donated equipment will go a long way to aid the city in giving free delivery to its poor, pregnant constituents. He said the donated equipment will go to the Sta. Ana Hospital and the Manila Health Department headed by Dr. Arnold ‘Poks’ Pangan.

Padilla said the new equipment will benefit thousands of poor women who avail of the free services at the Sta. Ana Hospital which serves poor residents from the sixth district of Manila. She said the hospital conducts about 8,000 free deliveries every year.

Padilla said part of the services prior to delivery are check-ups and other pre-natal services all provided free of charge on orders of Moreno.

Meanwhile, Moreno said the Mobile Serology Testing Clinic providing free testing continues to go around the city in an effort to stem community transmission of the deadly COVID-19 and immediately address those who may have been infected.

The mobile clinic usually goes to areas where COVID cases are reported to be high. Just the other day, tests were conducted among residents of Barangay 116, Zone 9 and Barangay 414, Zone 42 in Tondo and Sampaloc, respectively.

The mayor said the city government will not stop its efforts at testing, tracing and treating those affected by COVID-19 until a cure is finally made available.
