GOOD news for senior citizens.
Manila Congressman Joel Chua (3rd district) has filed a proposed bill that would provide senior citizens from all over the country with P1,000 monthly financial assistance.
According to Chua, senior citizens deserve all the help they can get from the national government, noting how much they need such monetary assistance in their twilight years.
Most of the elderly, he noted, are no longer capable of earning money the way they did during their younger years.
Chua added that the senior citizens usually need money for maintenance medicines on top of personal needs but that they are ashamed to ask help from family members or relatives or be a burden to them.
As such, they end up not taking their needed medicines and also more sickly and in despair.
“Panahon man ng ulan o init, hindi dapat napapabayaan ang ating mga lolo’t lola,” said Chua, stressing that society must learn to give back to the elderly who spent their prime working and contributing to the progress of the nation, particularly the city where they belong. It was learned that in Manila alone, about 200,000 senior citizens stand to benefit from his proposed bill once it is enacted into law.
Chua said the proposed measure, dubbed, “Tulong Para Kay Lolo’t Lola Bill,” seeks to provide the senior citizens with at least ₱1,000 every month as additional support for their daily needs.
“Patuloy nating isusulong ang panukalang ito—dahil ang malasakit para sa nakatatanda, walang pinipiling panahon,” he stressed.
