OPERATIVES from the National Bureau of Investigation – Criminal Intelligence Division (CRID), Counter Terrorism Division (CTD), Counter Intelligence Division (CID) and Intelligence Research and Analysis Division (IRAD) nabbed Marawi City Vice Mayor Anwar Romuros y Abedin, alias Anouar Abedin Romuros Abdulrauf, for a case of murder and attempted murder.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago said Romuros, who is using the alias ‘Anouar A. Abdulrauf’, was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by the Caloocan City Regional Trial Court, right inside the Hall of Justice in Marawi City, after the flag raising ceremony held on December 2, 2024.
The NBI was assisted by the Philippine Army (PA) 103rd Infantry Army, Task Force Marawi of Marawi City and Task Force Oro of Cagayan De Oro City.
Santiago said the case against the vice mayor was filed by the wife of the murder victim, Latip Sultan.
The suspect was positively identified by witness Abdulraof Alim Dimaporo.
Santiago said the murder took place in 2013 during the service of a search warrant for violation of RA 9165 (Dangerous Drugs Act) of the NBI CID-IS in Tala, Caloocan City.
According to Santiago, investigation showed that the suspect changed his name after the murder and even won as he is now the sitting vice mayor in Marawi.
“Pinagbabaril umano ng grupo, sa pangunguna ni Romuros, ang biktima na nagresulta sa pagkamatay ng biktima at pagkasugat ng iba pa. Napag-alaman na ang iba pang mga akusado sa nabanggit na kaso ay patuloy na nakalalaya at tinutugis ng NBI.”
