Massive education drive on COVID vaccines urged

DEPUTY Speaker Neptali “Boyet” Gonzales II on Tuesday urged the Department of Health (DoH) to launch a massive educational campaign drive on the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID) vaccines.

Gonzales underscored the importance of educational campaign while the Philippines is still currently at the phase of waiting for the arrival of the vaccines.

He said now is the right time to start enlightening the general public on the real facts and dispel whatever wrong information the public might have regarding the safety of the COVID-19 vaccines.

“All the billions of pesos appropriated by the government will simply go to waste if a substantial number of the people targeted by the vaccination program of the government will just refuse to be vaccinated, out of fear borne out of lack of information and understanding of the advantages of having it,” said Gonzales.

The Mandaluyong City House leader added that should this trend come about, the much-desired herd immunity in the Philippines will come to naught.

“A herd immunity will ensure that our economy will get back on track and our country will go back to normal,” Gonzales stressed.

In his capacity as a local official, Gonzales has conducted an online survey in his district and was much surprised to know that out of more 1,100 respondents, at least 70% are against having themselves vaccinated because of safety concerns and basic lack of knowledge.

“Thus, as of now, a massive information campaign drive should really be fast-tracked on the ground level, so that the government’s national vaccination program will fully be successful,” said Gonzales.(RPP) DEPUTY Speaker Neptali “Boyet” Gonzales II on Tuesday urged the Department of Health (DoH) to launch a massive educational campaign drive on the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID) vaccines.
