This was the strong appeal made by Mayor Honey Lacuna to all residents of Manila, as she announced plans to order a strict implementation of the waste segregation system and scheduling the garbage collection in the city.

The lady mayor noted how many residents put out their trash long before the garbage collectors come to collect them, thus causing eyesores.

The lady mayor reminded the residents that there is an existing city ordinance regarding the ‘tapat ko, linis ko’ program of the local government which requires every household to keep their vicinity and frontage clean.

Lacuna also explained that while Executive Order No. 6 designates every Friday as ‘cleanup day’ inside and outside of City Hall, cleanliness must be maintained at all times.

She underscored the importance of keeping the surroundings clean as this would invite tourists and investors which, in turn, would mean progress for the city and even its inhabitants.

According to the mayor, the local government is doing everything it can to keep Manila clean but that to ensure its success, the cooperation of the residents is needed.

She noted with dismay how concerned city personnel would collect, non-stop, trash dumped in places not designated for the purpose.
