MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo are calling on the public to patronize the local films being featured during the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) which runs from December 25, 2024 to January 7, 2025.

With Manila as the host city, Lacuna and Servo led the celebration of the MMFF’s 50th Edition and the Grand Parade of Stars in the city over the weekend.

During the duration of the two-week festival, only the ten entries will be in all Philippine theaters and no foreign films will be exhibited.

“Tangkilikin po natin ang mga pelikulang Pilipino, isang maligayang Kapaskuhan po sa inyong lahat and a Honey-Yul year!!!” Lacuna said in her brief message before the parade kick-off at the Kartilya ng Katipunan, which culminated with a Music Fest held at the Manila Post Office at 6 p.m. on Saturday and which featured local music performers in a free concert.

The golden anniversary parade was participated in by floats mounted by artists comprising the cast of the ten movies included in the MMFF. It went around the city from the Bonifacio Shrine to the Manila Central Post Office as its end point.

It will be recalled that from 39 scripts submitted, the first five official entries were chosen and announced on July 16, 2024 at the Bulwagang Villegas at the Manila City Hall. The second batch of films was announced on October 22, 2024, chosen from among the finished films submitted on or before September 30, 2024.

The MMFF’s 50th edition theme, “Sinesigla sa Singkwenta,” highlights this year’s festival featuring 10 competing entries with various genres.
