A CALL was made by Mayor Honey Lacuna to all solo parents and persons with disability (PWDs) in Manila who have unclaimed allowances to already get them in City Hall.

“Please coordinate with our department of social welfare to get your unclaimed allowance,” she said, adding that the city government is still trying to know the reason why the said beneficiaries were not able to get their cash aid on time.

The mayor bared that with the recent conclusion of the payout of allowances allowances for solo parents and PWDs in the city covering the period of the last quarter of 2022, thousands remain unclaimed.

Citing a report from DSW chief Re Fugoso, Lacuna said that in the case of PWDs, the total beneficiaries number 30,046 in all but that of the number, only 19,993 claimed their allowances while 8,936 have yet to claim theirs.

It was also learned that 1,117 have been invalidated meaning they have been stricken out of the list.

In the case of solo parents, Lacuna said that out of the total of 17,948 beneficiaries, those who have already claimed their allowances number 10,965. The unclaimed totals 5,230 while 903 have been invalidated.

The mayor commended Fugoso and her team for the swift distribution of said benefits and at the same time asked for understanding as to why some beneficiaries had to be invalidated, saying the local government is just being very careful when it comes to spending the city’s funds.

Each solo parent and PWD in the city of Manila receives P500 cash aid from the local government per month, as part of the city’s social amelioration program. Said benefit was crafted and passed into law when Lacuna was Presiding Officer of the Manila City Council, a position she concurrently held when she was vice mayor to then Mayor Isko Moreno.
