MAYOR Honey Lacuna and other key officials kicked off the start of the Christmas celebration in the city of Manila with simultaneous Christmas tree lighting activities within and outside of City Hall and various parts of the city.
Lacuna was joined by Vice Mayor Yul Servo and Congressmen Joel Chua (3rd district), Ernix Dionisio (1st district) and Rolan Valeriano (2nd district) in the ceremonial switch-on activity that lighted up the giant Christmas tree at the Kartilya ng Katipunan side of the Bonifacio Shrine. Other city officials led by city administrator Bernie Ang, city engineer Armand Andres, the mayor’s spokesperson Atty. Princess Abante and city electrician Randy Sadac as well as city councilors and barangay officials were also in attendance, among others.
Simultaneously, the Nativity Scene or “Belen” and giant lantern, along with the Christmas tree at the Bulwagang Rodriguez and the Christmas lights and decorations that adorned the main stairways of City Hall were also lit up.
Lacuna said that Christmas lanterns along the stretch of Roxas Boulevard, Taft Avenue, Lawton, Quezon Boulevard, P. Burgos Drive were also lighted up.
Joining the simultaneous Christmas tree lighting were the National Museum of Fine Arts Building (façade), Rizal Park, Tutuban Center and the Manila Central Post Office.
In her brief message, the lady mayor enjoined all Manilans to make everyday like Christmas Day by bringing joy and hope to others in whatever way possible.
She said that everybody can make “ber months” felt everyday, stressing that Christmas is not just about material things but more importantly, for intangible gifts like love and compassion.
As public servants, Lacuna said that those in government like themselves can offer their dedication to work and honest and sincere service as a gift to those who seek their help in relation to their functions.
“Ang pag-aalay ng tulong, pag-aasikaso at pakikiharap nang maayos at magalang sa lahat ng nagpupunta sa ating tanggapan ay isang paraan ng paghatid ng serbisyong may malasakit… ang paglilingkod nang tapat at may sinseridad ay malaking regalong maihahatid natin sa kapwa Manilenyo,” Lacuna said.
The lady mayor also said that if city officials and employees can do anything to ease the problems of and bring a smile on the faces of those seeking help in City Hall in their various capacities and on a daily basis, it would be a good way of making everyday a cause for celebration.
