A TOTAL of 93 couples who have been living together for a long time but could not get married for lack of money to cover the expenses were wedded for free either in civil rites or in Church during a mass wedding held by the Manila city government.

Mayor Honey Lacuna herself stood as principal sponsor to the couples 28 of whom were married at the St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Ermita while 65 couples joined a mass wedding held at the Adamson Gymnasium and which was officiated by the lady mayor.

The “Kasalang Bayan 2025: Manila June Bride” that took place on June 14, 2025 is part of the activities leading up to the 454th founding anniversary of the city of Manila dubbed, “Araw ng Maynila.”

Manila Civil Registry Office chief Encar Ocampo said that just like in the previous years, Lacuna took care of certain needs for the said couples’ wedding.

These include the marriage license, wedding cord and veil, flower bouquet, arrhae (wedding tokens) and wedding rings.

Ocampo said that on orders of Lacuna, the reception, venue, church marriage and wedding service were also taken care of by the mayor’s office.

Meanwhile, the wedding reception was held at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate.
