Mayor Honey Lacuna, president of the ruling local party in Manila, “Asenso Manileño”, has joined the national party Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) headed by House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and currently the biggest political party in Congress and the country, saying this development will certainly boost the programs that her administration has lined up for the residents of Manila.
“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa tiwalang ibinigay nila at sa pagtanggap sa akin bilang bagong kasapi ng partidong LAKAS sa pamumuno ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez. Umaasa ako sa mga makabuluhang mga proyekto at programa na mapagtutulungan namin ng LAKAS para sa Lungsod ng Maynila na ikabubuti ng bawat Manileño,” the lady mayor added.

Five of Manila’s six congressmen, namely Rep. Joel R. Chua, Rep. Bienvenido Abante, Jr, Rep. Rolando Valeriano, Rep. Irwin Tieng and Rep. Edward Maceda, stood witness along with Vice Mayor Yul Servo, as Lacuna took her oath as the newest Lakas member with no less than Romualdez himself administering the oath in his capacity as Lakas President. Also present during the simple rites held at the Social Hall of the Speaker’s Office in the House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon were Asenso Manileño councilors.
In a statement, Lacuna said she joined Lakas “because its party principles and platform are aligned with mine and will ultimately be most gainful for all Manileños.”
“I am grateful to my partner, Vice Mayor Yul Servo-Nieto, to our five Manila congressmen and the 21-strong majority councilors for their steadfast support and loyalty,” Lacuna stated further.
For his part, Romualdez warmly welcomed Lacuna to the fold of Lakas-CMD, saying the party is honored to have Lacuna as he also expressed confiden that the lady mayor “would provide significant contributions in upholding the principles and objectives of Lakas-CMD, reinforcing the party’s dedication to serving the Filipino people.”
He also cited Lacuna’s leadership, experience and commitment to serve her constituents and “greatly enhance our collective efforts to support the Agenda for Prosperity of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and his vision for ‘Bagong Pilipinas.’
Romualdez also highlighted the strategic importance of the new members in bolstering the party’s support for the programs and policies of the President.
Lacuna made history by becoming the first woman mayor in the city of Manila in 2022, winning with a very wide margin over her opponents who belong to big political clans in the city.
The party she heads, Asenso Manileño, made a clean sweep by winning all elective seats from the mayor, vice mayor, Congressmen and city councilors.
