MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna expressed elation and pride after the Sta. Ana Hospital (SAH) headed by Dr. Grace Padilla and which is considered as the city’s premier COVID hospital, scored 97 out of a 100 rating for a level 2 hospital, the highest among the local government unit (LGU) and Department of Health (DOH) hospitals to date.

The ratings were given by the DOH’s Health Facility Enhancement and Development Unit of the Metro Manila Center for Health Development and Sta. Ana Hospital is one of six being run by the city government of Manila, giving free health services to the residents.

Lacuna branded the positive development as another feather in the cap of the city government’s efforts to provide the best healthcare services possible, via its own public hospitals. One city hospital operates in each of the six districts of Manila.

While commending those behind the operations of the Sta. Ana Hospital for their dedication to duty, Lacuna also called on them to continue the good work under the guidance of their director, Dr. Padilla.

She also vowed to provide everything that is necessary and doable for the betterment of the hospital, its services and the status of its staff, along with all the other city hospitals in order to provide the best service possible.

Padilla, for her part, said the credit goes not only to the officers and staff of the hospital but moreso, to Mayor Lacuna for her invaluable support which began when she was still the vice mayor of Manila.

It will be recalled that when Mayor Isko Moreno was the mayor, he tasked Lacuna, a doctor, with handling the health aspect of the city and her job included supervising all the city-run hospitals and health centers, specially amid the pandemic.

Padilla explained that their Integrated Hospital Operations Management Program prescribes standards and guidelines aimed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of health care services through the creation and use of information for clinical, administrative and monitoring purposes in hospitals and other health facilities.

The ratings garnered by SAH were pursuant to Department Memorandum No. 2020-0202, which provides for the” Use of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Assessment form for Health Facility Managers and Healthcare Professionals in the context of COVID -19″ as well as guidance and adherence to the IPC standards and protocols in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Of the areas or categories used to rate the hospitals, SAH scored perfect in governance, quality measurement and improvement and facility safety and emergency management.

The other scores per domain are as follows: ethics and patients’ rights, 19 from the total score of 20; patient safety, 19/20 and resource management, 14/15.
