Mayor Honey, PBGen. Dizon to spearhead Manila’s ‘Oplan: Libreng Sakay’

AS part of the contingency plans for the announced transport strike that will last for a week, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna will personally spearhead the city government’s implementation of “OPLAN: LIBRENG SAKAY” on the first day of the said strike starting on Monday, March 6, 2023.

In response to the planned strike, Lacuna directed the Manila Police District (MPD) under Director PBGen. Andre Dizon, Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) adviser Dennis Viaje, and Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) chief Arnel Angeles to deploy vehicles that will assist possible stranded passengers throughout the duration of the transport strike.

Lacuna said that as early as 5 a.m. on Monday, the MPD, MTPB and MDRRMO will jointly deploy a total of 10 buses, 17 pick-ups, three trucks, two transporters and one command unit.

The mayor will personally oversee and monitor the deployment of these vehicles on Monday morning, starting at the Kartilya ng Katipunan.

All of these will ferry stranded passengers and will ply the following routes: Vito Cruz Taft Avenue to Quezon Blvd; Espana Blvd to Welcome Rotonda; Abad Santos Avenue to R. Papa Rizal Avenue; UN Taft Ave to R. Papa Rizal Avenue;Recto Ave to SM Sta Mesa; UN Taft Ave to P. Ocampo St; Monumento Rizal Ave to Divisoria; Buendia Taft Ave to Divisoria;Buendia Taft Ave to Monumento Rizal Ave and Buendia Taft Ave to Welcome Rotonda.

The lady mayor said that in addition, e-trikes will be available for free transportation along secondary roads along the City.

Viaje, who is in charge of providing buses that will ferry stranded commuters, said that the buses will ply Manila areas up to the boundaries.

Meanwhile, Dizon assured that enough police personnel will be deployed to secure the riding public as the MPD will also provide police vehicles to be used by commuters.
