This early, the city government of Manila is already in the process of preparing for the distribution of the cash allowances for the senior citizens covering the months of from September to December or the last four months of 2024.
It was learned that Mayor Honey Lacuna has directed the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) headed by Elinor Jacinto and the public employment service office under Fernan Bermejo to conduct consultative meetings on the matter.
Those who are being asked to attend are the officers of each of the 896 barangays in the six districts of Manila.
The said meetings, according to Lacuna, aims to ensure the orderly and expeditious distribution of the payrolls being prepared by the city government for the senior citizens’ allowance.
The payrolls cover the months of September, October, November and December 2024.
The lady mayor enjoins the support of all barangay officials concerned by being present on the date, day and time set for the said consultative meetings.
Those expected to attend are the barangay chairpersons, barangay secretaries or any of their representatives who are authorized to organize or make the updated senior master lists in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Under the city government’s social amelioration program, some 203,000 senior citizens receive P2,000 each as cash assistance representing their P500 monthly allowance for four months.
The most recent payout covering the months of from May to August 2024 was begun this month and is expected to be finished by September 27, 2024. The payouts were divided into two districts on specific dates.
The payout, cash out and liquidation of senior citizens’ allowance is being handled by the office of Bermejo.
Lacuna said the senior allowances, which are being given as part of the local government’s social amelioration program, are now being coursed through the barangays due to requests from senior citizens who encounter problems using the PayMaya.
Lacuna and Jacinto have been calling on senior citizens to already surrender their PayMaya cards which will expire by month’s end and have them replaced with OSCA IDs which have no expiration and which they can also use in claiming their monthly allowance.
