MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna is urging devotees to the Black Nazarene to strictly follow the rules and regulations being set by the Church and law enforcement authorities to avoid any hassle and ensure the safety of all the participants in the annual ‘Traslacion’ which is expected to draw millions as usual.
In a statement, Lacuna also called on those who will be joining the expected mammoth crowd during the ‘Traslacion’ to no longer bring children and persons with disability so as not to expose them to any hazard. The said procession highlights the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene on every January 9th.
The lady mayor also advised the would-be attendees against wearing jewelry or bringing any prohibited items.
Most especially, Lacuna called on the devotees to make sure that they are not in any way intoxicated when they join the procession, stressing they may bring harm to themselves and to others as well.
Lacuna assured that the city government of Manila is doing everything from its end to ensure the safety of the procession participants.
She had directed all concerned local government units to do their routine share of work, stressing that City Engineer Moises Alcantara, for one, had reported having gone through the designated procession route to make sure that there are no hanging electrical wires as well as potholes and open manholes as devotees are expected to join the procession barefoot, based on age-old tradition.
Medical teams will also be on standby to attend to cases that need medical attention, the mayor added.
