TO better serve the residents of the first district of Tondo, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna led the inauguration of the newly-renovated emergency room of the Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center (GABMC), saying it now has become at par with private hospitals.

GABMC Director Dr. Ted Martin thanked Lacuna for the support, saying since 1998 or 26 years ago, it is only now that the said hospital has become fully-airconditioned, for starters.

Lacuna was joined during the ribbon-cutting by Vice Mayor Yul Servo, Dr. Martin, RD Dr. Rio Magpantay, Dr. Jose Mari Castro of DOH, Baseco Hospital Director Dr. Edwin Perez and DOH representatives Arch. David Xavier Dado and Engr. Jasper Abayari.

The mayor thanked the Department of Health for the help, saying the improvements were made possible through its Health Facilities Enhancement Program, which aims to improve public health facilities in the country.

It was learned that apart from the budget coming from the city government, the DOH also contributed to fund the renovations made in GABMC.

Lacuna announced with pride that among others, the 30-bed fully airconditioned emergency room features a new strategic layout to provide the nurses a view of all patients, OB-GYN section, decontamination area and isolation area, even as CCTV had been installed for the security of the patients.

Martin, for his part, stressed that having a doctor at the helm of the city government really plays a big part in how the health services are delivered to the people of Manila.

He lauded the kind of genuine care and concern being shown by Lacuna for the residents of Tondo which the GABMC serves as the city-run hospital in the first district. Each district has its own hospital being operated by the local government.

Pursuant to the orders of Lacuna, Dr. Martin said all the city hospitals, including the GABMC, continue improving their services especially in attending to emergency cases and to always be guided by compassion, dedication and ‘puso and kalinga.’

According to Martin, GABMC now has properly- arranged patients based on the cases or departments, complete with DOH isolation requirements.

“Mas maayos na, mas maaliwalas at mas komportable sa patients at sa mga staff at nag-expand kami with additional beds. We now have emergency equipments and medical supplies, CCTV and wifi for communication requirements,” Martin enthused.

He added: “St. Luke’ s look-a-like design na ang GABMC, hindi na rin nahuhuli sa mga private hospital, all for the people of Tondo.”
