Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo led the city in celebrating its 454th founding anniversary on Tuesday, June 24, dubbed ‘Araw ng Maynila.’
“Sa loob ng 454 na taon, ang Lungsod ng Maynila ay nananatiling tahanan ng katatagan, kasaysayan at pagkakaisa ng kanyang mga mamamayan. Sama-sama nating ipagdiwang ang anibersaryo ng ating minamahal na Lungsod ng Maynila,” Lacuna stated in her message to all Manila residents and workers.
Both Lacuna and Servo led in marking the celebration with a wreath-laying ceremony held at the monument in Malate of Rajah Sulayman, the first hero of Manila.
They were joined by representatives from the Philippine Navy, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Barangay Officials and city employees from the Department of Public Services, Department of Engineering and Public Works, Parks Development Office and the Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila, among others.
Prior to this, the city government also feted individuals and businesses who have contributed to the progress of Manila.
A total of 382 employees were also given service loyalty awards for their service to the city in the past 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 years.
A job fair which provided thousands of job opportunities for unemployed Manilans was also held by the city government as part of the foundation day activities.
