MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo, along with Manila department of social welfare chief Re Fugoso, rushed to give immediate assistance to victims of fire that hit Sampaloc, especially to those who lost loved ones.

Lacuna and Servo were personally on hand to condole with and provide all the possible assistance, including financial help, to those who unfortunately have family members that perished during the said fire incident.

From there, Lacuna and Servo proceeded to check on yet another set of fire victims in Intramuros.

It was learned that each family displaced by fire received P10,000 while those whose family members died in the fire were given P20,000 each. They also received other forms of help from the city government like hot meals, hygiene kits and other essentials.

Lacuna lamented that people died in the Sampaloc fire, as she reiterated her appeal to all residents to do everything possible to prevent fires, specially the loss of lives.

Reportedly, six died including two children, in the fire that hit a residential building located at the corner of Laong Laan and Blumentritt Streets in Sampaloc, Manila.

A report from the Manila Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said that three of the dead were found on the second floor while the others were found at the ground floor.

The said fire began at 2:40 a.m. and reached second alarm before it was controlled at 4:24 a.m.

Meanwhile, Lacuna and Servo led the city’s single, largest distribution of food boxes as part of their ’12 Days of Christmas’ gift-giving this year.

It was learned that a total of 24,397 boxes were given to residents of Barangay 20 and Barangay 275 in Parola, Tondo, which is one of the most populous areas in the city of Manila.

Lacuna and Servo began distributing the food boxes to the some 700,000 households within Manila on December 1, to ensure that all families in the city will have food on the table to usher in Christmas Day. The said boxes contain noche buena items and all households, regardless of status, are included in the list of recipients.
