MAYOR Honey Lacuna thanked the barangay officials in Manila for their support and cooperation in ensuring the success of all the programs being laid out by the city government for its people.

The lady mayor acknowledged the significant role of the barangay authorities in efficiently identifying the problems and needs of the citizenry and how they can be effectively addressed at the soonest time possible.

In doing so, Lacuna said that the barangay officials serve as the bridge between the residents and the Manila city officials so that the latter can bring the services needed directly to the grassroots level swiftly.

She also cited the role that barangay officials played during the height of the pandemic, joining the ranks of frontliners who risked infection just to get their jobs done.

This was echoed by Vice Mayor Yul Servo-Nieto, who also expressed gratitude for the support that he and the mayor continue to receive from barangay officials, thus making their job easier particularly when it comes to the implementation of city programs for the residents.

The two top officials of Manila made the pronouncements during the Christmas gathering they hosted for the said barangay authorities.

The barangay officials present lauded Lacuna for putting politics aside by embracing all of them, regardless of their political affiliations.

The mayor called on them to continue discharging their functions without fear or favor and to continue helping the local government of Manila identify the problems that need immediate attention.

Section 384 of the Republic Act 7160, also known as the Local Government Code of 1991, “as the basic political unit, the barangay serves as the primary planning and implementing unit of government policies, plans, programs, projects, and activities in the community, and as a forum wherein the collective views of the people may be expressed, crystallized and considered, and where disputes may be amicably settled.”
