‘Mediaman’, daughter, 2 others fall in drug bust

4 persons, including “mediaman” held for illegal drugs in Cabanatua.

CABANATUAN CITY – Four persons, including an alleged member of the media and his daughter were nabbed during a drug sting conducted by undercover operatives of the special drug enforcement unit here on Monday night.

City police chief, Lt. Col. Arnel M. Dial, said the four suspects were apprehended in Purok 4, Bgy. Hermogenes Concepcion Sr. at 9:15 p.m.

One of the arrested suspects, Cesar Cabanada, 56, allegedly introduced himself as a correspondent of Pahayagang Nueva Ecija, a local paper. Also nabbed were his daughter, Emilia, 28, niece, Eliza, 29, all of Bgy. Dicarma, this city and Archie Sandoval, 34, alias Harley, jobless, of Bgy. Burgos, Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija.

Dial said his men led by Major Jeffrey Alivia initiated the buy-bust with a police poseur-buyer buying two plastic sachets containing shabu worth P1,000 from the suspects.

Sandoval yielded two more plastic sachets with shabu, including the P1,000 buy-bust money, while operatives also seized two plastic sachets with shabu from Emilia. Eliza and Cesar yielded one plastic sachet of shabu each.

Also seized from the suspects were government and media identification cards bearing the names of the two suspects and other drug paraphernalia. Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 were filed against the suspects before the city prosecutor’s office here.
