A MEMBER of the Bangsamoro Administrative Region Police Office last Friday became the latest member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who will be facing dismissal from the service after he tested positive for substance abuse, PNP chief, General Debold M. Sinas said yesterday.
Patrolman Benhur Ismael, a 51-year-old member of the 2nd Sulu Provincial Mobile Force Company, tested positive for shabu during an initial screening test and a follow-up confirmatory test on his urine specimen conducted by the Regional Crime Laboratory last December 30, the result of which was released on Thursday last week, the PNP chief said.
Sinas said that as a result, Ismael was stripped of his PNP-issued firearm and placed under the restrictive custody of his commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Kris Conrad Gutierrez inside the Sulu Police Provincial Office headquarters.
As a matter of policy, all members of the PNP who will test positive for shabu or marijuana use will be immediately relieved from their post, disarmed and restricted to quarters pending the conduct of the summary hearing procedures on them.
Sinas said he wants all police personnel who will test positive for illegal drug use to be immediately dismissed from the police force and stripped of all their government benefits including pension and other retirement benefits.
