MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna called on minors aged 12 to 17 to get boosted.

Lacuna made the call noting that while the city government records show that minors belonging to the said age group who have gotten full vaccination already reached over 147,000, those who have gotten their first booster shot numbered only about 13,000.

Particularly, Lacuna said that while the vaccination rate in the city of Manila is about 120 percent for first and second doses, “pero pagdating ng booster shots ay nangalahati na, lalo na sa second booster.”

The lady mayor lamented that a lot of people have the wrong notion that having the first and second vaccinations is enough.

“Me paniniwala ang iba na ok na ung first and second kasi fully vaccinated na pero pag me planong mag-travel, kadalasan ay hinahanap ang booster,” she said.

Lacuna also stressed that the booster shots were created for a reason and would not have been created at all if they were not necessary or do not serve any purpose at all.

Meanwhile, the mayor said that the positivity rate in Manila continues to get lower. The positivity rate is based on the number of people who turn out to be positive after undergoing the official and confirmatory RT-PCR testing.

She explained though that while the most recent positivity rate of only 1.92 percent is encouraging, it should not be ignored that a lot of individuals nowadays no longer undergo RT-PCR.

Instead, they use antigen test kits which can be done at home or just do self-medication without undergoing any tests, once they feel symptoms, said the mayor, who also happens to be a doctor.
