More gov’t support for bgy health workers urged

TAGUIG Rep. Lani Cayetano has said it is high time the barangay health workers (BHWs) are given full support and attention by the national government especially as the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic continues to rage.

“Ako po ay nagbigay na ng 100% commitment na bigyan ng national government ng atensyon at kahalagahan kasi up until now, allowance-basis po ang ating mga barangay health workers,” Cayetano said during the recent handover of food donations and other supplies to barangay and health frontliners in Malolos City, Bulacan.

With Cayetano during the handover to recognize the hard work of health frontliners during the COVID-19 pandemic were Taguig City-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano, Bulacan Vice Gov. Wilhemino Sy-Alvarado, and Bulacan Rep. Jonathan Sy-Alvarado.

“Nandito rin po kami para i-cover kayo, pasalamatan kayo sa lahat ng dedikasyon niyo. Hindi natin akalain na sa pagpasok ng COVID, kayo pa yung unang susugod sa giyera,” she said.

Cayetano raised the concern that BHWs in most areas of the country are still working on an allowance basis and not a regular salary.

“Nakita natin ‘di ba, itong pandemyang ito, yun palang mga allowance-basis lamang, sila pala ang pinaka kailangan sa laban,” she said.

She gave assurance that she, together with Reps. Cayetano and Alvarado-Sy, will advocate the rights and benefits of the BHWs.
