MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna announced that the distribution of the P1,000 monthly allowance for the students of the city-run Universidad de Manila (UdM) and the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Manila (PLM) totalling at least 18,000 in all, will take place before the end of May.

Lacuna said that in the case of the UdM, its students numbering 10,115 will be receiving P2,000 covering the months of March and April in the personal payout that will take place within the campus from May 28 to 31, 2025.

It was learned from UdM President Dr. Felma Carlos-Tria that the currently-enrolled students are required to bring their own ballpens, original and photocopy of UdM-issued RFID card with three specimen signatures, a photocopy of GO Manila ID, a printed copy of student portal with midterm grades (second semester, 2024-2025).

Tria said the procedure and schedule of payout are duly posted in the official social media accounts of the city, adding that the system to be employed is personal handout, as usual, while the over 8,000 students from the PLM will also be getting their two-month allowance although through their debit card accounts.

Students from the UdM and the PLM receive P1,000 monthly allowance through the city’s social amelioration program which was passed during the term of Lacuna as the Manila City Council’s Presiding Officer. Also recipients of monthly financial assistance from the city are senior citizens, solo parents and persons with disability.

Unlike PLM whose allowance is downloaded, the UdM students’ allowances are released through personal payouts, the dates for which are scheduled. The allowances are being given on a ‘per college basis’ to ensure the orderliness of the process and the students’ convenience as well.

Lacuna said that while the allowance may not be that substantial, it is meant to augment the regular expenses of the students from the city-run colleges and help tide them through.

“Ang maliit na tulong na ito ay isang patunay ng ating buong suporta sa ating mga mag-aaral para makatulong at makapagtapos sila sa kolehiyo. These allowances are the beneficiaries’ share of the taxes collected and revenues generated by the city,” Lacuna added.
