Motorbike driver killed, back rider hurt in mishap

A RIDER died while his companion was seriously injured when their motorcycle was hit by an Isuzu Elf truck Monday before dawn in Caloocan City

Jessie Boy Tapia, 24, of 160 Gen. Mascardo St., Bgy. Bagong Barrio succumbed to severe head and body injuries while undergoing medical treatment at the Caloocan City Medical Center while his back rider, Joko Sarmiento, 19 of 32 Gen. Evangelista St. Brgy. 144 sustained multiple injuries and is still under observation at the same hospital.

Caloocan police traffic investigator P/Cpl. Rhou Anthony Gudgad said the victims, on board a Yamaha Nmax, were travelling westbound lane of EDSA at around 3:50 a.m. while the Isuzu Elf (CAF-2639), driven by Jomar Anilao, 29 of Diamante Sterling 2, Bgy. 170 Deparo 2 was traversing on the opposite direction of EDSA heading towards Balintawak.

Upon reaching A. De Jesus Street, the truck driver failed to notice the motorcycle driven by Tapia who made a U-turn going to Balintawak area, causing him to hit the rear portion of the motorcycle.

Due to the impact, both victims were thrown off the motorcycle and sustained severe injuries in their heads and bodies.

The truck driver surrendered to the police after the incident and is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injury and damage to property before the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office.
