Motorbike rider dies in Caloocan road mishap

A MOTORCYCLE rider died while his back rider was seriously injured in a dawn road mishap Sunday in Caloocan City.

Arvin Sarmiento, 23, helper and resident of 35 B Anneth St. Marulas, Valenzuela City, succumbed to severe head and body injuries while being rushed by Barangay Rescue Ambulance to Tondo Medical Center. His back rider identified as Dexter De Asis, 29 of Sangandaan, Caloocan is still under observation in the same hospital after undergoing treatment for body injuries.

Caloocan police traffic investigator P/Cpl. Dino T Supolmo said the incident occurred at around 12:20 a.m. at the corner of A. Mabini and P. Gomez II Streets, Brgy. 5 while the victims, on board a black and red Suzuki Raider motorcycle, was travelling southward along Mabini Street heading towards Sangandaan.

Upon reaching the corner of P. Gomez II St., Sarmiento failed to notice an Isuzu jitney (NWJ-921) driven by Geniroso Vergara, 29 of No. 2 Dizon Street, Bgy. 2 which was reportedly maneuvering causing the victim to hit the right side middle portion of the vehicle.

Due to the strong impact, Sarmiento was thrown off the motorcycle and landed on the road, causing severe injuries in the head and body while his back rider also fell on the cemented pavement.
