Motorbike thief uses boy,11, as human shield

A BUTCHER who reportedly attempted to steal a motorcycle held hostage an 11-year-old student apparently to use him as a shield against policemen apprehending him on Monday in Quezon City.

PLTCOL Ritchie Claraval, chief of the Masambong Police Station, identified the suspect as Mateo Bajandi, 38.

Bajandi is now detained at the Masambong Police Station for charges of carnapping and serious illegal detention.

PEMS Arnold Reyes said the incident occurred at around 8 a.m. on October 19, 2020 along North Avenue corner Agham Road, Bgy. Pagasa.

Investigation showed the suspect who was reportedly intoxicated tried to steal a parked motorcycle. He was about to board the vehicle when he spotted patrolling policemen.

The suspect tried to flee on foot but saw a young boy whom he held hostage while holding a bolo.

Operatives of the Masambong Police Station led by PCapt. Mark Cotelo and several others negotiated with the suspect.

After a while, the suspect released the minor victim unharmed.
