THE Manila Police District (MPD) and the Commission on Election (Comelec) launched ‘Oplan Baklas’ targetting campaign materials of candidates for Senator and partylist that have been illegally posted in prohibited places such as Meralco posts and trees.

At around 4:30 a.m., Comelec Chairman George Garcia himself spearheded the said operation that begun at the Kartilya ng Katipunan and went to the Palacio del Gobernador, San Marcelino, Apacible, Quirino Avenue, Roxas Boulevard and ended at the Universidad de Manila in Arroceros.

Around 80 policemen assisted the Comelec and according to Garcia, the operation targetted election paraphernalia of candidates for Senator and partylist and not those of local candidates since the latter are not yet covered by the campaign period.

Garcia stressed that the campaign materials removed are those put up in prohibited areas.
