Murder suspect falls in Cavite

A MURDER suspect who bolted the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-run facility in 2007 was captured by agents of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) in an operation in Tanza, Cavite on Saturday, PNP-AKG director, Brigadier General Jonnel C. Estomo announced yesterday.

Isidro Alvarado was arrested on the strength of a warrant for murder issued by Judge Rowena Mojarez-Arevalo of the Cavite City Regional Trial Court Branch 17 last September 20. No bail was recommended for the liberty of the accused, the official said.

In a report to PNP chief, General Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan, Estomo said members of the AKG Special Operations Unit led by Lieutenant Colonel Wilfredo V. Sy arrested the fugitive inside Fojas Subdivision in Barangay Daang Amaya II in Tanza with the assistance of the local police 6:45 a.m. Saturday.

Recovered from the suspect were four caliber .38 revolvers.

According to Estomo, the suspect went into hiding after being involved in a murder case in Cavite in December 2000 but was arrested by the local police in 2007.

Alvarado was detained at the Cavite BJMP facility for six months but eventually managed to escape by passing off a cyclone wire which he destroyed.

Estomo said they found out that the suspect went into hiding in Bicol region for eight years before transferring to Roxas City in Isabela for two years. In 2017, he was monitored to have returned to Cavite where he was accused of being involved in gun smuggling.

Estomo said the suspect worked as a construction worker to conceal his identity until they got a tip from an informant regarding his real background.

The suspect was immediately taken to the PNP-AKG headquarters in Camp Crame for documentation prior to his presentation to the Cavite court, said the official.
