TAGUIG CITY — The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) proudly announces that National Scientist Carmencita D. Padilla has been officially named Co-Chair for Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) Board, the highest decision-making body of IAP.
National Scientist Padilla was nominated by NAST PHL and elected by IAP member academies worldwide. The three-year term of the new IAP Board will begin on 11 December 2025 during the IAP Triennial General Assembly and Conference in Cairo, Egypt.
The InterAcademy Partnership is a network of more than 150 academies of science, engineering, and medicine, committed to providing independent, evidence-based advice on global issues, including health, climate change, and sustainable development. NAST PHL is an active member of IAP and continues to represent the Philippines in strengthening global science engagement.
A pioneer in genetics and genomics in the Philippines, National Scientist Padilla has led major initiatives in newborn screening, rare disease advocacy, and genomic medicine. Her appointment reinforces the role of LMICs in shaping international science policy and ensuring equitable access to scientific innovations.
