National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago said that former Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque may be charged with inciting to sedition after posting a call for ‘people power.’
Santiago said Roque is not even a leader and his call for drastic action will not help the country in any way.
“Hindi makakatulong sa bansa ang pagtatawag ng marahas na kilos… hindi naman siya lider,” said Santiago as he blasted Roque for calling people power while he continues to be in hiding.
He also dared Roque to surface and show his courage in calling for people power.
Santiago also said that the vloggers and trolls who are behind the proliferation of fake news on social media and other online sites and platforms will be charged by the bureau.
It was learned that Santiago directed the NBI cybercrime unit to establish the identities of trolls and vloggers involved in spreading fake information.
The NBI chief said that while there is freedom of speech and freedom of expression, these are not a license to create false stories.
Santiago assured that complaints will be filed with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against vloggers and trolls, including those who are based abroad whose extradition may be requested by government.
The cases to be filed will depend on the result of the DOJ probe on possible violations of the anti-cybercrime law or inciting to sedition.
