National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago warned candidates in the 2025 elections against using funds from illegal sources.
Speaking at the MACHRA Balitaan forum of the Manila City Hall Reporters’ Association held at the Harbor View Restaurant, Santiago said that candidates may have to face liability should they be found to receive or use illegally-sourced funds coming from illicit activities such as POGO.
According to Santiago, there will be no sacred cows with regard the matter.
“Mag-ingat po sila…wala kaming sasantuhin kahit na sino pa ‘yan,” the NBI chief said.
“Basta galing sa iligal, eh bawal po ‘yan,” Santiago stressed further.
He explained that illegal funds are not necessarily from POGOs alone, but may also include those coming from the illegal drug trade, prostitution or illegal gambling, among others.
