A TOTAL of 17 Chinese nationals were arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation – cybercrime division in an operation conducted in a building long suspected of being a scam hub, in Pasay City over the weekend.
The arrest stemmed from a search warrant issued by the court and the information that the said aliens are involved in a series of scamming activities.
It was learned that at least 20 workstations were found in the said five-storey building.
Rooms were also found that had signs saying “Couple Room” where foreigners with partners stay. Each room has its own comfort room and beds.
At the rooftop, the NBI found a commissary and the foreigner’s food were being brought to each of the occupied rooms so that the scammers need no longer get out of their rooms from time to time.
Apart from computers, SIM cards and cellphone, the NBI also recovered notebooks containing scripts, depending on the kind of scam involved.
The NBI said that a forensic investigation will be done on the recovered computers to determine how long they they have been in operation.
Aside from the foreigners, several Filipinos were also found to be working in the said building.
The Filipinos meantime, said they are not aware of the illegal activities taking place in the building since they only get to see the computers every time they bring food to the aliens.
The arrested foreigners are now being held at the NBI for purposes of interrogation.
