THE National Bureau of Investigation – Special Task Force (NBI-STF) announced the arrest of 19 individuals said to be illegal notaries public in various areas in Quezon City on Tuesday.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago said Sheryl Bonifacio and Francisco Uldarico were nabbed for viiolation of Articles 172 and 177 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC), along with Chirester Cancino, Anna Lou Acuna, Elaine Lucena, Chester Adrian Lacayan, Violeta Oraa, Jocelyn Concepciilon,Thelma Concepcion, Maria Cholina Torino, Elma Luod, Virginia Concepcion, Eduardo Concepcion,Violeta Fronda, Val Justine Lacsamana, Chona Concepcion, Marites Longcop, Christopher Casino and Marie Antonette Miranda.
Santiago said the operation stemmed from a complaint lodged by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) against suspected illegal notaries public operating in Quezon City, particularly in stalls located at the EDSA C. Plaza, on 1105 Congressional Avenue and Bago Bantay, Quezon City.
The said notary public stalls, Santiago said, are being used by non-lawyers who perform notarial acts.
The NBI-STF, he added, conducted a series of surveillance and undercover operations and after confirming the information, the operation was carried out on October 22, 2024.
The suspects were subsequently nabbed in the said NBI entrapment operation and have been charged before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
