FOUR employees of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were nabbed by its own agents for allegedly acting as ‘fixers’ during an entrapment operation conducted on Monday right outside the NBI Clearance Center on United Nations Avenue, Ermita , Manila.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago said that seven other ‘fixers’ were arrested after they were found to be offering a faster issuance of NBI clearance in exchange for an amount of from P800 to P2,000.
Santiago said the arrested NBI employees are said to be working in cahoots with fixers for the swift processing of NBI clearances.
According to Santiago, he received information regarding such illegal activities of the NBI employees so that an entrapment operation was conducted by the NBI-Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD) and the NBI – Special Task Force (NBI-STF).
Santiago said the NBI has no room for corrupt employees.
Those arrested were charged with Direct Bribery under Article 210 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC); Sections 3(b) and (e) of R.A. No. 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act); Section 7(d) of R.A. No. 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees); at Section 21(c) and (h) of R.A.
