NBI ready to probe priest’s murder

THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is ready to investigate the killing of a Catholic priest near a monastery in Malaybalay, Bukidnon on Sunday night.

As to the priest murdered in Bukidnon, we’ll wait for the police to uncover more facts before we decide to take any definite action,” Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Tuesday said when asked if he will order the NBI to conduct a probe under Administrative Order 35.

Fr. Rene Regalado, 42, was repeatedly shot by a still unidentified assailant at 7:30 p.m. near the Carmelite Monastery in Bgy. Patpat.

Regalado was declared dead on arrival at the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital.

Police investigators recovered a .45 caliber pistol, two magazines, an empty shell, and 10 live cartridges at the crime scene.
