NBI to probe killing of Manila RTC judge

THE National Bureau of Investigation has been directed to conduct a parallel probe into the killing of Manila Judge Ma. Theresa Abadilla last Wednesday.

In a message, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra admitted that Abadilla’s death may have stemmed from personal issues with her clerk of court, alleged gunman Atty. Amador Rebato Jr.

Guevarra, however, qualified that the NBI probe may aid court measures to prevent violence in courtrooms from happening again in the future.

Though Judge Abadilla’s death appears to have arisen from an internal issue with her clerk of court, I have nonetheless directed the NBI to conduct a parallel probe, considering that the incident has implications on the personal security of our judges and justices, ” Guevarra said.

On Wednesday, Abadilla, 44, was shot dead allegedly by Rebato, inside her office at the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 45.

She was declared dead on arrival by emergency doctors at the Medical Center Manila.

On the other hand, Rebato claimed his own life after shooting Abadilla over a still unknown motive.

Witnesses disclosed that the two were heard arguing inside her office when gunshots were fired.
