THREE suspected members of gunrunning and drug syndicates were gunned down in an encounter with police yesterday morning in Navotas City.
Navotas police chief Col. Rolando Balasabas identified the slain suspects as Edgar Doctolero, 47, Kim Ryan Permejo 35 and Ernesto Gellado, Jr. 38, all residents of Blk 35 Lot 26, Phase 2 Area 2, Bgy. Tumana, Navotas City.
Col. Balasabas said joint elements of Northern District Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and District Special Operation Unit (DSOU) were about to serve a search warrant against Doctolero when Gellado, who sensed the presence of operatives outside their house fired successive shots at the policemen.
An exchange of gunfire ensued until Permejo threw a hand grenade to the operating team but it failed to explode.
Moments later, the three suspects lay dead with bullet wounds in their bodies.
CIDG investigator SSgt. Charnel Garcia said five assorted handguns composed of caliber .45, .38, .22 magnum and two hand grenades and 20 pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing undetermined quantity of shabu were recovered from the slain suspects.
Garcia said Doctolero was the subject of search warrant issued by Navotas City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Presiding Judge Pedro Dabu Jr. of Branch 286 for violation of R.A 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Act after several complaints of indiscriminate firing of different types of handguns in the area.
