2 held for illegal gambling in Malate

MANILA Police District-Station 9 operatives arrested three residents of Malate, Manila for illegal gambling, right on the street the other night.

The violators were identified by the police as Edwin Ocampo, 39, a carpenter, of 2331 Rosal St.; Joshua Villar,18, of 1909-F Munoz St. and Jeffrey Almehas,19, all of Singalong, Malate, Manila.

Reportedly, the gamblers were nabbed by barangay chairman Reynaldo Habay of Bgy.753 Zone 81 along with his barangay kagawad and barangay tanod, while in the act of rolling a dice. Confiscated from them were over P20,000 in gambling money, a pair of dice and P5 coins.

The barangay authorities were patrolling the area when they saw the suspects gambling at 9:50 p.m., at the corner of Arellano Avenue and Jasmin Street in Malate, Manila.

All three have been turned over to the MPD- Arellano Police Community Precinct who placed them under arrest and had them charged with Violation of PD 1602 (illegal gambling) before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
