2 hunted for trader’s rob, slay

POLICE are now hunting two unidentified armed men after they robbed and shot dead a businessman after a brief chase shortly after midnight yesterday in Malabon City.

Jonathan Verances, 31, engaged in a buy and sell of motorcycle and resident of 23 Talabahan St., Bgy. Baritan, Malabon City succumbed to bullet wounds in the body while being rushed to Ospital ng Malabon while the still unidentified suspects fled towards Navotas City on board a single motorcycle.

Malabon police staff duty officer Maj. Romulo Mabborang said the incident happened at around 12:50 a.m. at the corner of C-4 Road and Manapat St. in Bgy. Tañong while the victim was on his way home.

Investigation conducted by Sgt. Joselito Bagting and Cpl. Phillip Cesar Apostol showed that while Verances, on board his motorcycle was on his way home, riding-in-tandem suspects flagged him down along Bagumbayan North in Navotas City.

Sensing danger, the victim sped off towards C-4 Road prompting the suspects to chase him. Upon reaching Manapat St., the back rider fired several shots, hitting the victim in the body.

The assailant immediately took the victim’s safety helmet and sling bag containing undetermined amount of cash then fled towards Navotas City area.

Police recovered from the crime scene nine empty shells, a deformed bullet and metallic fragment for still unknown caliber of firearm.

Malabon police chief Senior Supt. Jessie Tamayao ordered the immediate manhunt against the suspect.
