2 men slain in Bulacan clash

TWO armed men were killed in separate gunbattles with the police in Bulacan province last Monday, a report to Police Regional Office 3 director, Brigadier General Joel Napoleon M. Coronel said yesterday.

One of the slain suspects identified as Romeo Calaguas Jr. alias ‘Botong,’ a 52-year-old resident of no. 200 Morales Street, Barangay Lolomboy in Bocaue municipality was gunned down by anti-narcotics officers in San Rafael town, said Bulacan Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Chito Bersaluna.

According to the official, Calaguas and an unidentified cohort had just sold a sachet of shabu to an undercover agent when they sensed the ongoing entrapment operation and immediately fired at the officers.

The lawmen retaliated killing Calaguas on the spot. However, his accomplice managed to escape on board a motorcycle and is still being hunted as of press time.

Recovered from the slain suspect’s possession were one caliber .38 revolver with five live ammunition, a caliber .38 revolver with five live ammunition and his driver’s license and voter’s ID.

The other suspect who remained unidentified as of yesterday was killed in a firefight with a member of the Manila Police District identified as Corporal John Michael dela Cruz in Bgy. Ilang-Ilang in Guiguinto municipality at 7:45 p.m. Monday.

According to Guiguinto police chief, Lieutenant Col. Joel Aparejado, the suspect and an unidentified cohort were on board a motorcycle when they snatched at gunpoint the backpack of a jeepney passenger in the area.

However, the incident was seen by Cpl. Dela Cruz who was then driving his motorbike on his way to Balagtas town. Aparejado said the Manila policeman immediately went after the fleeing suspects and shot one of them dead following a shootout near St. Lorraine in Bgy. Ilang-lang.

An unlicensed firearm was recovered from the slain suspect’s possession. Bersaluna also reported the arrest of six suspected drug personalities following separate buy-bust operations in Pandi and San Rafael municipalities and in Malolos City the other day.

He identified the suspects as Evangeline Doctor,41; Reginald Lagman,46; Warren Bunalade,32; Greg Gerbert Francisco,39; Edgie Gabonada,23; and Eddie Agacer,42.

Recovered from the suspects whose names were included in the drug watchlist of their respective barangays were 16 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu, marked money paid to them by undercover policemen and a Yamaha Mio 3 with plate no. 4197 RU and the marked money.
