TWO drug suspects were killed while their alleged cohort was arrested during a buy-bust operation in Bgy. UP Campus, Quezon City, on Tuesday.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Supt. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr. identified the slain suspects as Robinry Magtarayo, alias “Suka”, and Jeffrey Rodriguez, alias “Jeff”. Their alleged cohort, identified as Bernie Maravilla, 36, of Rodriguez, Rizal, was arrested.
The report said that at around 9:15 a.m., the operatives conducted a buy-bust operation against the suspects in a shanty located along Cotabato St., Pook Arboretum, Bgy. UP Campus, after receiving reports of their drug-peddling activities.
A police acted as a poseur buyer, however, before reaching the target area, a gunshot was heard coming from inside the shanty. Rodriguez and Maravilla were seen running on their way out of the shanty.
Police operatives chased the suspects but Rodriguez fired at the officers, who retaliated, killing him. Maravilla opted to surrender.
A caliber .45 Springfield pistol loaded with three ammunition and an extra magazine loaded with seven ammunition were recovered from Rodriguez while three sachets of shabu were seized from Maravilla.
Meanwhile, Magta-rayo was found dead inside the shanty. A cal. .38 revolver with four ammunition, two improvised steel pipe shotguns with 12 gauge ammunition, a sachet of marijuana, four sachets of shabu and several drug paraphernalia were recovered from his possesion.
Esquivel commended the operatives for their accomplishments.
“Our operatives are left with no option to defend themselves from these armed drug suspects who chose to engage our policeman. We encourage drug personalities to surrender to authorities and avail the opportunity of drug rehabilitation and never engage in illegal drugs again,” he added.
