TWO suspected robbers, an alleged drug pusher and a civilian asset were killed in separate encounters with policemen in Quezon City yesterday morning.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Supt. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr. said one of the fatalities in the first encounter was identified thru his Bgy. Identification as Christoper Blanca, 41, of Bgy. Batasan Hills while his companion was described as about 35-40 years old.
A report from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the QCPD said that at 12:10 a.m. yesterday, victims Mauriel Anthony Villegas, 29, and Arjay Mortel, 20, were on their way home along Kalayaan Ave. near Elliptical Road when one of the suspects arrived in a blue motorcycle without plate number. The back rider alighted and held up the victims of their belongings, ordered them to lie facedown on the ground before they fled towards the Elliptical Road.
Operatives of the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) under Supt. Gil Torralba, who were on anti-criminality operations in the area, saw the victims who told them that they were robbed.
The operatives immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation and cornered the suspects at Alley 32, Road 10, Project 6.
They were ordered to surrender but instead of giving up, they pulled out their handguns and fired at the policemen. A brief shootout ensued which resulted in the death of one of the suspects on the spot. The other suspect was brought to East Avenue Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.
Recovered from the suspects were a cal. .38 revolver Armscor 202 loaded with four bullets, a 9mm pistol with serial No. 18001694F loaded with six bullets, a Honda Wave motorcycle, two backpacks with personal belongings of the victims, a cellphone and four sachets of shabu.
At 1:45 a.m., another encounter occurred between operatives of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) of Talipapa Police Station (PS 3) under Supt. Alex Alberto and a suspected drug pusher, identified only as “Gelo” 25-30 years old, 5’5” in height, wearing blue T-shirt and short pants and sporting several tattooes in the body.
The operatives set a buy bust against the suspect at an alley at Machaca Compound in Doña Josefa 11 Subdivision, Bgy. Culiat with a civilian asset, identified only as Tom, about 40-45 years old posing as buyer.
The suspect sensed that he was transacting with a civilian asset, drew his handgun and fired at the ‘civilian asset’ resulting in his death. Operatives quickly reacted and engaged the suspect in a shootout that resulted in his death.
Recovered from the suspect were a cal. 9mm Armscor with serial No. 110282 loaded with six bullets and four sachets of shabu.
